Good deeds info.

Thanks for visiting my website. I hope that when you received the token that you were also a recipient of a good deed.

Mission Statement:

My goal is to make people happier and healthier by doing  or receiving a good deed.

How it works?

I originally passed out tokens that had an image of a happy face on the front and the words “do a good and then pass this token on” on the back.  I also included a web address where people could find out more information about my movement.  My hope was that with the tokens people would both give and receive good deeds and would learn about my movement, which in turn would get even more people involved in the movement.

Why should you get involved in this movement?

Good deeds can help you! Good deeds can make you happier. Stanford University, psychologist Sonja Lyubomirskyv conducted a study that proved  this.  She had one group of students doing good deeds for a few weeks while having another group not. The group that did good deeds for a few weeks were far happier than the other group 1. Additionally, good deeds make you healthier. A Harvard study showed that people who donated a dollar to others had more physical endurance than those who didn’t. The study also showed that good deeds can give you will power 2. Lastly, you could save a life by doing one good deed. You see, suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death in America for youths ages 15-243. You may be surprised by how much a little deed can do for a stranger. For example, Juan Mann decided not to kill himself just because a stranger said he looked like he needed a hug him when he was depressed. Doing a good deed does not necessarily save a life but can make someone’s day.

Why did I create this movement?

I wanted to raise awareness about getting good deeds done. With the bad economy, some people don’t have time to think about little deeds, which is totally understandable. In fact half of all Americans are worried about money they owe, as said in a modern survey 4.  I made this website so other people wouldn’t have to.

What do you mean by good deeds?

A good deed is something that helps others. Here are some examples: giving up your seat on the subway, giving food to a food drive, holding the door, helping a friends, and picking up trash. Anything that you think kind is a good deed (if it does not harm anyone or anything in a negative way.)

How can help?

You can help this project by passing on your token and doing a good deed.
